Malvern school walks Malvern Hills for hospice

Pupils at a Malvern school are getting fit, enjoying the countryside and supporting a local charity by taking part in this year’s St Richard’s Hospice Malvern Hills Walk.

A team of over 75 pupils, teachers, and families from St Matthias CE Primary School in Malvern have been getting into shape so that they can step out for hospice care on Saturday 14th May.
The school’s challenge was the idea of Mrs Ginnie Beale, St Matthias’ Deputy Headteacher, who has fired up pupils and teachers alike with enthusiasm to support St Richard’s. The team will be taking on the event’s five-mile circular route, one of the three routes available. There is also a longer 11-mile route with spectacular views from the Malvern Hills ridge line, and a family friendly circular two-mile route.

Mrs Beale said; “We are all very excited to be taking part in this sponsored walk. The hospice provides wonderful care for patients and their families and we are hoping to collect as much money as possible to help the hospice continue to care for local families. We are hoping that the sun will shine on the day, but we are sure that we will all have fun while enjoying these beautiful surroundings on our doorstep.”

St Richard’s Hospice provides free specialist palliative care for patients living with life-limiting illnesses and supports their families. Each year the hospice team supports over 2,600 patients and family members in Worcestershire with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.

Patients are cared for in Day Hospice, the 17-bed In-patient Unit or in their own homes by a specialist professional team as well as many trained volunteers.

In the In-patient Unit, specialist staff are on hand 24 hours a day to manage patients’ symptoms and where, if appropriate, patients may spend the last few days of life in comfort and dignity. St Richard’s is an independent charity and is grateful for all donations to help it to continue its work.
